I've been thinking a lot about hope lately. Before my diagnosis of Bipolar, I thought of hope as an emotion that people experienced erroneously or sometimes, even tragically. But after my diagnosis — after losing my marriage, identity, health, friends, family, and life as I knew it — I began to understand that hope is so much more.

Hope is everything. without hope, I wouldn't be alive. hope is what helps us persist even in the face of fear and doubt when things are dark and all seems lost. hope allows us to set goals each day, to wake up and face ourselves in the mirror despite all the sorrows that life can bring. hope brings life and possibility, and with that love and joy.
